I finally update yum, installed yumex and vlc. The only problem I have is vlc and yumex can not be found at my main startupmenu- applications. I can only access them though the gnome terminal. Can someone help me? I want to be able to access them through the main startup menu.

Thanks,

Bladeeye

Had a couple issues trying to configure this originally. However, downloaded the update yum.conf and it worked fantastically.

Thanks a ton Haxen

One little detail for us noobs.

run the command : yum list
once you follow the guide in yum.conf.info found in the download section:
UPDATED yum.conf & repos files

Reason: for me atleast i could not search/install before i did a list. I think the list command cache the files available in the links you have in the yum.conf.

Thanks for the guide. I think i was damn lucky today. I followed the guide but the yum.conf was outdated so i was just about to write a post asking what to do when the site updated with this new download must be my lucky day hehe

Another detail is that the found yumx is actually version 1.0.2 and not 1.0.3!
Perhaps you guys could add a few more locations? I found this place really usefull:
http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/se...submit=Search+...

Can i just install the rpm from here? (we are using ppc right? there is a x86 also)
Fedora Extras 5 for ppc yumex-1.0.3-3.0.fc5.noarch.rpm

It appears I have figured out all of my problems. I had to remove several BIND files before my yum update would give me a result of 0, which is exactly what I wanted.

Can anyone help, I followed all the instructions on the front page and this is what I got.

[root@localhost ~]# yum search yumex
Repository freshrpms is listed more than once in the configuration
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Searching Packages:
Setting up repositories
base [1/4]
updates [2/4]
freshrpms [3/4]
extras [4/4]
Reading repository metadata in from local files
No Matches found
[root@localhost ~]#

you have to downlaod a certain file first:

on the homepage of this website, go into-

downloads - PS3 Files - UPDATED yum.conf & repos files (found on pg.2)

then try running it again...

unpack the UPDATED conf & repos files to a folder or desktop...it should leave you with a yum.conf file and text file...you have to drag and drop these into your etc folder, located in the file system, essentially replacing the old file.
