Default Very Strange problem with YDL. Please help.

Used to be a noob, but right now I've managed to get vlc, xine, totem-xine, yummex and a few other things up and running. Thanks in part to a some wonderful posts on this site. Thanks you all. Now for my problem.

I try to avoid ranting about baseless issues on this board cause I've learnt the best way to handle linux ops is to research online. Kinda how i even ended up here. But nothing seems to be answering my problems. I followed the faq on this board to install mplayer manually (without yumex) but couldn't get past the skins install part, I then pimped up my vlc after downloading the all codecs package and successfully installed it. i Know i did it right cause after that vlc and xine played everything. But my sound in xine is distorted on whatever i play, and i default its adiuo to auto or try oss. My vlc doesn't play some of my mp4s. Particularly the ones i converted for my ps3 using red kawa. Whats happening cause i'm fresh outta ideas. Ydl on ps3 is the first time I've actually gotten into pcs beyond windows so all this is new to me.

Sorry for the long post but wanted to give as much info and praise as possible. You guys deserve it.

On the side note, when i installed mplayer using yumex it worked once though it didn't play anything( thanks in full to some wierd -vo error message). I upgraded my internal ps3 hdd to 160gb and had to do everything again. Now it just pops up and immediately disappears when i try and open anything with it and i know if i could just get it to run all will be ok since i have most codecs installed now unlike befroe and have even copied them to the usr/lib/win32 directory all from the terminal which I'm very proud of and they work.

Any help will be much appreciated. And don't people reply posts anymore on this site, I'm in africa and probably the only person on the continent using linux my friends are about to jump on the band wagon and are using ps3hax as a point of reference.

Lastly i hear its possible to have ydl on my ps3 run some bittorrent apps. I can't stress how important that is for me. Any help on what and how to install whatever i need to do that? Thanks in advance to any body that bothers to help.
