Has anyone by chance gotten a Brother MFC 240-C scanner/copier/printer to actually scan something using the scanner tool?

no but shouldnt be much of a problem, you have to have their software installed, the printer makes a call to the app on pc when you touch scan button and then you kick it off from pc app. reinstall their software. my Canon MFP400 does nice scans.
