Default Help Removing otheros partition from ps3 HD

I installed 2 new partitions aloting 10gb each to the os on the ps3 bringing my original 74gb of space into 54gb, I tried to recover that lost space by choosing the last "custom" format option on the ps3, "alot 10gb to ps3 thinking that I would get back my space back. BIG MISTAKE!. Now my ps3 says I have only 9024 mb on the hard drive after many quick/full formats.

Tried to format using windows vista and it only recognizes it as 9gb too.

I called sony and they said they dont support the installation of linux but I would either have to use an uninstalling disk for YDL 5 or purchase a new SATA hard drive

What do you guys suggest Im stuck and wanna get back to gamming

When booting to OTHEROS all you will be able to do is erase the partitions.
Or create new ones... The alloted disk space will remain without any partitions.
A "Full" format via the PS3 OS should recover your space and wipe the alloted disk space.

Also, when you reformatted you probably alloted the 10GB partition to XMB(instead of linux),
which is why it is only displaying that much free space. I may back up my PS3 and try this
out myself to see what happens.

you aRE brave my friend lol, I didnt install my os correcly it got stuck at kboot screen. Is there a command I could type in to full uninstall the 2 partitions I have created for OS, as well as my mistake for alotting 10gb to my ps3. Just to remind you its showing me 9gb out of 74gb, even windows sees it as one partition.

I am very close to purchasing a new hd because of this, though I dont want to i still have hope that the geniuses at ps3hax will help me figure this one out. cant do much with a 9gb ps3 booooooo! no fun

backing up now.....will reformat tonight or tomorrow.

what type of monitor are you using? what cable connection?

Basically give me your "setup."

[EDIT]

got an hour left on the reformat. going to bed, I'll report back tomorrow.

System Settings -> Format Utility -> Format Hard Disk -> Yes -> Use All for PS3 OS-> Full Format -> Yes

I got about the same...after the full format I had 47 of 55(out of 60GB) worth of space left
then I did a custom quick format and gave 10GB to linux and had 39 of 55 gig and after the restore i had 16GB available.

Although I had 3 accounts and folding at home installed(though that shouldn't take up that much space)

I'm going to have to look deeper into this now......

Also, tried to install opensuse 10.3 from the network, but it keeps hanging on me, so I'm going to re-install ydl6(since I have the dvd)
