I have vlc installed, now i have some questions

ok, so i got vlc installed, but how do i play stuff? sounds dumb, but when i open a audio cd or dvd or mp3 it doesnt play, it doesnt do anything!

type "VLC" into yoru console or create an application in your apps list with the command "VLC" that wil open the player and then you can click file -> open

or you can right click on the file you want to open and click "Start with" -> VLC

i can open vlc, but when i try to open a song it doest play.
