FDC--OK/YDL--OK/GENTOO--WTF?!?!

Hello All. I need a lil help. Anything would good.

First...Im kinda new to the whole linux thing. But i did manage to get FDC and YDL on my ps3
I didnt really like either so i try Gentoo. Did alot of looking i liked wht i say though i dint understand much of it i like the challenge. but i keep hittin these walls that make me wanna throw the ps3 and all out the window. PLease help me...
I keep gettin these error messages and other problems. 2 weeks and like 7 installs and i only saw the Xfce 4 desktop once and i aint sure it was the desktop. see thing is i cant get any task completed, xorg kde kernels portage upgrades nothing. everything i do get part way thru and get an error of some sort.
IS THERE AN ORDER TO THE WAY TO DO THIS??
i cant seem to find anything that says do this and that from begining to end. if i could just get past the configuring and crap i think i can handle the rest.

but i do have a clearer ? now
whn i try starx i get an error. it seems the point of the msg is that i need to change my "monitor setting" under /etc/X11?xorg.conf.... i have tried everything i could think verything i find online from "Monitor0" "Generic Monitor" "Generic Monitor0" "Default Monitor" "Default Monitor0" hell i even tried T.V. Since this is ps3

So Does ANYONE know wht to do in this situation??



oh yea here is wht it says
