Booting into PS3 Game OS from Linux

I am using gnome...and it worked exactly as you instructed.

I "create new file" and copy and pasted the command:

su -c "ln -s /sbin/boot-game-os /bin/boot-game-os;echo '[username] localhost = NOPASSWD: /bin/boot-game-0s'>>/etc/sudoers"


then I took out [username] and replaced it with root. Then I opened a terminal and entered the command. I hit enter, runs its course and it now tells me button exists...

...right click on desktop..."create launcher" and under command:

sudo boot-game-os also check "run in terminal"


Works like a charm...now when I want to get back to a blue ray movie...I have a functioning icon button back to the game os. cool.

OK GREAT, so this works on GNOME... but can someone confirm that this works for KDE please?

Cool!!! This was one of my beefs with having the OS, that I had to reboot then type in the command to get back to my PS3. Thanks for the detailed tutorial. Works like a charm.

I am a newbie. I dont understand what opening up a console or any of that. All I want to do is click a n icon and get to my PS3 OS. I also don't know how to install the YUM updates. Thanks for the help.

18bravo...its not as hard as it sounds....

right click on your desktop, select "create new file"...open this file up and copy and paste the follwing command into this new file (open up the internet and pull up this page to copy and paste):

su -c "ln -s /sbin/boot-game-os /bin/boot-game-os;echo '[username] localhost = NOPASSWD: /bin/boot-game-0s'>>/etc/sudoers"


...then I took out [username] in the command and replaced it with root or whatever name you use to log in.



Next I opened a terminal and copy/pasted the command above. I hit enter, runs its course and it now tells me "button exists"...


Next...right click on desktop..."create launcher" and in the "command" line, simply type:

sudo boot-game-os ...also check off the "run in terminal" box.


Now you have a new icon that you can click to get back to the ps3.

I have tried doing this 3 or 3 times and when I click on the Icon it does nothing. When i paste into the terminal it says file exists not button. I don't know if this is because I cant configure my YUM and Yumex.. That could possibly be the reason.

try downloading this file...its an updated file. then run it again.

have you tried the "create launcher" step...

try that and see what you get...

ok i figured this out. I had the same problem as described by 18. What you need to do is when you type in the command in the "create launcher" don't put "sudo boot-game-os" just put "boot-game-os" This worked for me. I did not ned he "sudo" command.

hi i am stuck at localhost login im confused!! i put my username karan then i put my password which i created and it don't work it is asking for some command line thing
