BLANK SCREEN

I login using: root as my user name, then i type in my password. I use startx for the blah blah crap that comes after you type in your login info. After that is all said and done my screen goes blank. I used the installtext method on my CRT HDTV because it only supports the 480i/480p/1080i resolutions. I could not seem to do a GUI install because my tv doesnt support 720p/or 1080p.

I too have this problem. I have a SDTV so I also use ydltext to get to the login part then I type in my details and then type startx. Once I have entered that I see some loading text start scrolling then the screen goes blank (black colour). Your not alone in this but it is very anoying eh. The only way to do anything is to use the console - everything works there fine but just can't get into the GUI of yellowdog 5. I previously installed a heap of codecs and dependencies but I wouldn't mind knowing if that is a reason for it to do this. Also I had a look through some of the dektop settings but didnt really change anything. It did this to me after restarting the PS3. Hope I dont have to reinstall yellowdog... Thats not as smart as getting a fix for the issue...
