Is it vital that i need a
high def, tv to run yellow dog as im stuck with 42" projection tv for now, im asking this question as well as ive read the guide in detail and where it tries to instal yellow dog the screen goes blank, ive read that others have this problem but theres no replys to the Questions so can any one help as im a noob 2 Linux.
There are many posts in here about text install or standard definition install (480i) for YDL.
Boot up in Linux again, and watch after the 2 penguins show on the screen and then some text, you will get a kboot prompt on the screen. It pauses for 10 seconds here. Hit the TAB key repeatedly when you see the kboot prompt and cycle it to YDL480i, then hit ENTER. See if this helps you.
If you need further help, here is a post that refers to some good guides.

There is also a guide in the download section, get the one for SD monitor (Standard Definition). Then use the info to switch to a graphics system, you can use YDL480i for sure, maybe even 480p.
when you went through the install, it asked you for a root password.
your login is root
your password is whatever you set up. If this login does not work, you did not enter the same password. You have to reformat the drive from the Sony GameOS (press the power button and leave it pressed for 5 seconds to power it down from Linux. Then press the power button and leave it pressed for 5 seconds to force it to boot back up to Game OS). Go into Settings and reformat the drive and then set the default to Other OS and restart the PS3.
Then install it again and write down the password that you entered.
go back to GameOS, format drive again, re-install. make sure you get the latest 5.02 iso and create an iso image onto a clean dvd at 1.0x speed - do not deviate from this advice. you need a perfect iso to get a complete install.
do not copy the iso to the dvd. use dvd decrypter in downloads section.
In decrypter, select Mode from menu and then Iso and then Write.
Then point it to your source iso file in the Source section, using the file folder icon.
Make sure Settings in lower right corner is at 1 speed.
Put your clean DVD in drive, put check mark in verify box and then click on arrow button below to start the burn. report back here with your progress.
