Default trouble beginging install

so this is where i am at, i have my install disc with root directory of "PS3" and sub directory of "otheros" and i have tried both writing the kboot as "otheros.bld" and the iso as "otheros.self" and vice versa. and everytime i get data is currupted once the ps3 finds the file and i select ok. so right now i am running on the original gangster 60GB ps3 and i am trying to install the gusty gibson. now i havnt messed with linux seince fedora core 2 was out so im hitting in the dark right now on what i have to do, any and all help would be appreicated. so now its in your hands forum members, what do i need to do?

I'm afraid I can't fix your specific problem, but I can tell you that I successfully installed gutsy gibbon on my 300GB (was 40GB) PS3 but was unable to get my bluetooth keyboard/mouse to work. After much research, I decided to give YellowDog 6.0 a try because it seemed to have better support for the PS3 hardware, including BT. I'm very happy now with YDL 6.0, and unfortunately Ubuntu is no longer on my PS3.

Since it seems from your post that you are more interested in Linux than any specific distro, I suggest burning the YDL 6.0 ISO and installing that.

yeah, i wouldnt say im a complete noob, but i wouldnt say im a indermiate linux user either. i think amateur best describs it, onces its up and running i know where im at. yes i would agree that im looking for linux and not really one specific distibutor, exspecially with my microsoft embargo (join me untill they can make a stable OS for the intermediate user). i only chose ubuntu because i have heard good things about it but if there is one i would like more then the other please tell me. exspecially seince i have run heavy bits of javascript at one time. the reason im want to do this is because i just fried my last PC, that i unforunatly still owe money on(dude dont get a dell). so i need something to do atleast the basic nerdspace and instant messaging friend. opionins?
