format usb hdd to use on ps3 - PS3Hax

Hi, i just bought a usb hdd but it came formated in ntfs and the ps3 cannot detect it. I need to format to fat32 but not sure how to do this in ubuntu. any help would be appreciated.

You can try and use ntfs3g. It reads drives formatted in NTFS. (not sure if there is a hyphen in it. Maybe it is like nfts-3g. Can't remember but try both).

sudo apt-get ntfs3g (or -3g)

1.Connect Hdd to your PC
2.Go to my computer
3.Right click on the harddisk and select format
4.Choose quickformat and select fat32

Thats it i guess

that really is the easiest way, i agree.

This is a screenshot of my "right-click" menu, I know that in windows the directions would work but i use ubuntu on my laptop, I had 40Gig already on it, so i have to put that data on disks before I can format anyways. If i cant get it done with Linux ill installl a guest OS for a windows partition and use that to format it. Thanks for the help guys

From what I see in the picture, there is no formating option. Looks like you need that other partition.

to format in linux, first, unmount the device

Then, enter this command in a terminal:

sudo mkfs.vfat -n (label_name) (device)

You can also use gparted.

my hdd wasnt being mounted, but once i was able to mount it in the terminal, using gparted did the trick with ease and now i have 500gig of extra storage. woo hoo . thanks everyone for the advice.
