Sometimes when you install YDL 5.02 using an HDTV as a monitor with HDMI cable or component cables, the graphical install will not work, it seems to hang and the screen goes black after the kboot prompt.
In this case, restart the PS3 with the power button, wait for the two penguins and some text to come up and you will see a kboot prompt come up on the screen.

When the kboot prompt comes up, hit the TAB key on your wireless keyboard (that is plugged in via USB to your PS3) and cycle through the 4 options until you get to
and then hit ENTER.
Then you will see 6 penguins and some text and then it comes up with a blue screen and a question:

hit OK then pick your Language then pick your keyboard (probably us)
Then select
Yes when it asks you to initialize the drive.
Select
OK when it highlights
sda as the drive to initialize. (you can use the TAB key to navigate)
Select
No to Review Partion Layout (needless)
Select
Yes for the Low Memory warning and creating a swap disk
Select
OK when it says Exception Occurred
