These instructions are for Yellow Dog Linux 4.0, however this will work in YDL 5.0x or any proper version of Linux on PS3 like Fedora, Gentoo, Ubuntu ...
Procedure
1. Download snes9x RPM to your PS3:
[Please register to see this link. ]
2. Download snes9express RPM to your PS3 (go here and click on the Download Now link):
[Please register to see this link. ]
(The official SNES9x page can be found [Please register to see this link. ])
3. Install these RPMs. Open a terminal window (Log in as root) and run:
Keyboard Controls
Left, Right, Up, Down: arrow keys
Start: Enter
A,B,X,Y,L,R seem to be in the A,Z,S,X,D,C area, just play around with them til you find the one you want
6. Alternatively (and recommended) run snes9express from a terminal window and you can use this to configure your PS3 controller as a joystick (controller must be connected by USB)
I have it installed but i dont get the second part with the RPMs, where do you run them in? I tried in Termnal but it said not found. Im using YDL 5.0 BTW, i dont think it works for it.
you can also check this page out it has good links and directions can do it right from your PS3 in YDL 5.0

just make sure when you click the links to download you do the free one and type in the scramble letters they want you to type in. Then since you prob already have a torrent downloader go to Torrentz.com or snarf-it.org and search for SNES games download them on your comp burn a CD full of them put them on your ps3 and bam tons of old school games for you. Ive been playing fifa 95 and MK1 all afternoon WITH MY PS3 controller how sick is that! The emulator if you click on CONTROLS in the snes9express it gives you the options to map your SIXAXIS to control the old school buttons. Life is good with a PS3 hope the extra links and info helps. Now to find a good NES and N64 Emulator are there any out htere?
Thanks a bunch dude! I think after i work tonite my bro will be gone so i can use his HDTV to get this thing FINALLY working. Could I install the SNES emulator using YUMEX instead of yum? I already have it installed, its just that i ncant get it to play roms i have downloaded DIRECTLY to the HD. I'll download a few from my desktop and try from there.
ok i followed the directions on the link tail2424 gave me and almost everything works perfect and I'm using the ps3 controller to play. The problem I'm having is that the sound is all "choppy and messed up" Does anyone know how to fix this. Thanks, Phill
This second link is broken by Terrasoft, however I believe that NASM is already installed on YDL 5.0, therefore try installing the snes9x and continue.
2. Install it. Log in as root and run:
rpm -ivh nasm-0.98.39-1.ppc.rpm note: dont bother with this command unless you found the nasm file
rpm -ivh snes9x-1.43-0.1.ydl.1.ppc.rpm
3. Obtain SNES game ROMs* Hint: Google, and the screenshot.
4. Run snes9x:
snes9x
Keyboard Controls
Left, Right, Up, Down: arrow keys
Start: Enter
A,B,X,Y,L,R seem to be in the A,Z,S,X,D,C area, just play around with them til you find the one you want
