i am not able save step 6 (deleting # before baseurl)... says i don't have permission...

you need to have root permission:

having trouble on step 5 get these error messages...

Looking at the tutorial it seems that you have YDL. There is an easier way to install VLC than following this guide.

First you need the 3rd party repos from Fedora, Dribble and Livna. [Please register to see this link. ] is an RPM to install them for you. After you install the RPM install yum-protectbase to protect your YDL base, extras, and updates repos from unecessary changes from the 3rd party repos:

yum install yum-protectbase

After that just install vlc (assuming that you didn't exit out of the terminal because if you did you need to run su again):

these are the folders i have from the download, where is the rpm & ydyum sub folders i need
/home/motoxer/Desktop/untitled folder/usr/bin
/home/motoxer/Desktop/untitled folder/usr/lib

Obviously everyone and their dogs are smarter than me. I can live with that. I have done everything, but I don't know how to save rip files to /etc/repos.d. I need specific steps.

Okay, I seem to be having a problem with VLC. I downloaded it and was able to get it installed onto YDL. But, now when I try to run it, it doesn't do anything. No warning or notice comes up, I just click on the VLC icon and nothing pops up. When I type in the command vlc -v it gives me an error message like this:
[00000001] main vlc warning: config file /root/.vlc/vlcrc does not exist yet
[00000001] main vlc warning: could not open plugins cache file /root/.vlc/cache/plugins-0404be.dat for reading

I checked and there is no folder called .vlc in my root folder (I checked the hidden files too). Is there anyone who could help me out with this? I'm a bit lost as to what to do...
