VLC Player - How to Install on PS3

Thank you very much for the great install instruction.
Although I am new to Linux, I had succesfull VLC installation on my YDL5.0 for PS3.

I am probably doing something wrong, but I was wondering if some would know there is a workaround for the fullscreen issue with VLC.
No matter what movie file type I use I cannot get back to the standard screen from fullscreen view.
It looks like the desktop gets frozen. I kill the desktop and restart it to get back in to the normal screen view.
I have installed VLC 0.8.5-2 and playing on 1080i fullsreen resolution.

Everything else worked just fine. I played DVD, Divx, and Xvid. The all worked fine with good sound quality.

Is there a way to get VLC to see SMB? Even if I try to drag files from my smb network it seems to refuse to open anything from the network, but it will open it if I drag it to my hard drive first and then move it over.

I have added all the software that I can find and I am still getting the same dependency errrors as I stated above.......Can someone please tell me where I can download those files?

Same here, full screen seems to have issues.

Did you download the VLC Update from the download section. Once I installed all of those files it worked. Some of those files won't allow you to install unless others are installed first It would be nice if we can put together a list of what files need to get installed in what order.

Just want to say thanks to everyone on the tutorials for vlc installation.
Ive got mine up and running . Seems to be working fine. Mp3's and some divx and xvid movies Im testing now and seem to be running great.

One question. I am running mine on 480i since no high def tv yet....
The YDL toolbar in the bottom is annoying when tyring to watch a movie/video.
Is there a way to remove that toolbar?

I thought i could simply hit full screen on the vlc media player..but that causes my screen to go white and
the vlc media player malfunctions and wont shut down. Anybody experience this problem?

Right click on the shelf at the bottom and choose shelf config.

You can choose size, hover, placement etc. Just get rid of it completely for full screen.

How to install it in YDL on a PS3?

You say that VLC has played everything you have thrown at it....but will it playback raw 1080i transport streams or mpeg2s without kicking?

thanks for the great guide. i am a linux noob and i got it installed without any trouble. i just have one question. could i play songs from a windows computer on the same network and have that library saved so i would not have to locate each song myself??
