Click on the third link at the top of this topic, from your browser, click on it and it will dl the blue skin. then open nautilus and extract the files and icons folder to the usr/local/share/mplayer/skins/default/ folder.
Also, put the true type font that i talked about in the usr/local/share/mplayer/ directory
you can run gmplayer before you sort out the font, it will open up and give u an error message but at least u can see if it runs.
I'm jealous man, your's looks tight. I'm still getting the "not readable" message. I'm going to try reloading the entire thing. It seems to me that something import with the GUI got lost in the wash. All help is still much appreciated!

Thanks for the excellent tutorial! I had mplayer running in no time. I was wondering whether you could set this up in a way where you can play media directly from a network share. I can browse into my NAS with nautilus, but cannot seem to play anything using "open with mplayer". The only way I could actually play something is to copy files into the PS3 drive. Any suggestions? ---Thanks in advance.
svn checkout svn://svn.mplayerhq.hu/mplayer/trunk mplayer
cd mplayer
./configure --enable-gui --enable-largefiles --enable-menu
--enable-dynamic-plugins && make && sudo make install
Then download the skin (open up your Firefox browser in PS3 and copy and paste this url into your address bar and hit Enter) [Please register to see this link. ]
Open up Nautilus and select this file, Edit Extract
say u downloaded the Blue theme, you want to unpack or unzip the tar into the
usr/local/share/mplayer/skins/default/ directory
(make the directory if it is not there)
OK, now u have your skin files in the right directory, you do not need to "make" or "install" the skin files, they just need to be unzipped in the right folder.
Then follow my instructions above about the subfont. ttf and you are done sir.
Thanks for the info. I got it to work, without using SVN. I don't have that installed. I read that there was a problem with the lastest release, well at least the one you can't get from SVN, but from the website. I tried to download the latest one, but there were all these dependencies I needed, particularly libdirectfb-9.so.25 or something like that. I couldn't find one that was compatible with YDL (PPC). So, I have MPlayer, but I think it is the 1.0.rc1. I have been trying to get MythTV to work, but have not been successful so far. The reason, I am interested in the latest MPlayer is because on the old MPlayer, I have an HD-DVD(Pirates), that I was able to rip and play on my PS3 in YDL, but there was a buffer overflow problem, so it ran slow, which I thought might have to do with the old MPlayer, and not the processing, so maybe there is a way around it. It just seemed really cool, because if Pirates is a legit HD-DVD then I was able to play it, and rip it from the PS3!!
I managed to get it installed ok. My only problem is that when I play a file it plays in a square in the middle of the screen and the movie never fills the frame no matter what I do.
