Will GTA IV's Success Cause Massive Amounts of Xbox 360s to Brick?
Microsoft is certainly trying to push the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV as the best version you could get (what with all money being spent on advertising and some [Please register to see this link. ]). But while these efforts may drive some people towards the Xbox 360 version, could the game’s imminent success have an adverse affect on the consoles themselves? Gameplayer recently brought up this point, which I’d never considered before, but they make a good case. Basically, GTA IV is undoubtedly going to be one of, if not the, biggest video game launch of the year. That means hundreds of thousands of people will be playing the game, probably for extended periods of time. And if history has taught us anything, it’s that the Xbox 360 really doesn’t handle well under that sort of*heavy use. So could the upcoming spike in people playing on their Xboxes more frequently lead to a huge spike in the number of consoles that break down? Personally, I get a little worried myself when I think I hear my Xbox 360 making a strange noise — other than the usual lawnmower-like sound; that’s normal. Come April 29h though, me and probably thousands of gamers are probably going to sit down for some good, long, quality time with Rockstar’s newest creation. Odds are, more Xbox 360s could suddenly*stop working*around that time than ever before. Of course, this is all speculation at this point, but I certainly hope Microsoft is prepared to relive*last year’s*”Red Ring of Death” debacle all over again.

I keep telling everyone that the Xbox can't handle the heat. But no one listens. Hope when the stop crying about the red ring of death they can go sell it and get a used ps3.
I never gave the RRoD stories that much credibility until I discovered a few weeks ago that all three people I know first hand that own xbox 360 have had xbox 360 failures (not elite boxes).
Two had RRoDs and one just totally locked up at the end of a cut scene at the end of a game and the box wouldn't restart.
Three out of three gets my attention. None of these guys have a PS3. They love their Xboxes and even though they are pissed, it doesn't look like they will abandon the platform.
I, personally, would not buy an xbox 360 until I am sure they have resolved these hardware engineering issues. The issue is real and is partially covered up by MS.
And you never know when it will hit you... a guy i work with was bragging that he has had his for 2 years and it still hasn't crapped out on him... A week later he came in and told me i jinxed him by talking about it... he had gotten the RRoD... after two years of playing CoD4 dusk till dawn... PS3 hasn't done that yet...

LOL. I consider myself a relatively un-superstitious person. However, I have learned to never brag about the stability of a computer, nor ever, ever say "Watch this!" when demonstrating something on a computer. You might as well put a magnet to your hard drive and watch TV and eat a can of Manwich.
Uh - oh. Talk about freaky coincidences of perception. This is a little scary and grisly. But seconds after you posted this I hit this from Digg:

This is a bizarre perceptual coincidence, but look for the RRoD in the photos. This will be the last time I post that acronym. (I said I was relatively not superstitious).
