720p vs. 1080i

-Smoother motion
-Better framerate
-No tearing
-Isn't interlaced
Better for gaming and high action movies

1080i:
- more pixels displayed
- non-interlaced
- Pixels are displayed only half per frame so that it looks less smooth
Better for viewing photos and static screens

I noticed the genji demo is smooth on 720p but gets slow downs on 1080i. So I never bought the game. But really this doesn't make any sense because 720p has to refresh 720 lines per cycle at 60fps, while 1080i only has to refresh 540 lines per cycle because it's interlaced. wtf? 1080i should have less workload than 720p!

i belive this is because genji is a 720p game so all the sizes have to be rescaled and i believe this is what slows it down and not the refresh rate

How do is set it so my games play in 720p and my blu ray movies are in 1080i.

The quality of your display ( plasma,lcd ...) may influence the end result

yeah your TV is whats sucking i have a sony xbr2 46 inch lcd that upscales... everything is smooth. Then again your talking about a 720p vs a 1080i .... not a 1080p

would this in any way lead to why cod4 displays in 720p even though on the case it says it displays in 1080i? kinda off topic but i always wondered this.

ive played cod4 on the 360 in 1080i and on the ps3 in 720p and it looks about the same until a 40" tv and the gameplay is smoother on the ps3... but i could be biased...
