how much (minimum) storage space is needed to do the system backup prior to swapping the drives??

Just got a 250gb SATA drive in from mwave.com that i wanna switch out, but need to back up system first.

Would it be easier to copy over the game saves first and forget about everything else? What else does the system backup, backup?
