Did you try the simplest thing and just press I/O button till it factory resets?

Ok here is what you need to do: (This will erase everthing on the HDD)

1) Turn off your ps3.

2) Turn off the power switch in the back and keep it like that for about 5 minutes.

3) Turn the switch on again but don't turn your ps3 on yet.

4) Hold the power button infront until you here 4 beeps. (Maybe it was 3 I can't remember)

This should wipe everything out including you video settings and revert to factory form into 480i.

This worked for me when my ps3 looked like it bricked.

EDIT: lol didn't see the 2nd page. Well this is a more explained version of trinitrons Idea.

try to hold the power button until you hear about two or three beeps. i am not sure.try both. it should automatically restore your default settings.
