Can I remove the hard drive from the Demo Mode PS3 and erase it using an SATA Eternal HDD Enclosure? Then can I put the HDD back in the PS3 and have it install the standard OS instead of the Demo OS? Or, could somebody make me an image of a V2.2 HDD so I could put it on the HDD and put the HDD in the PS3?
I do not think that the PS3 HDD would store any of the firmware info or anything of use to unlocking a demo mode because sony lets you have free access to the hard drive without voiding the warranty. So in the end doing things with the hard drive won't do you much help besides waste time
So is it true that if I unlock it and use a standard firmware upgrade instead of a demo mode upgrade, that that will work in removing the demo mode for good or no?
This seems to be the most credible sounding thread I have found on this subject:

It does appear that you can override the demo mode and then install a firmware update and have a "real" ps3. Different firmware version may have different key codes. NTSC and PAL have different key codes.
Also, plunk this into Google for more information:
i have a demo mode ps3 and am going through the same thing and it is not possible to change the firmware to a retail version... the firmware is stored on the flash memory in the unit not the hdd and when you try and force it a retail firmware it doesnt recognize it... the only reason why they allow you to unlock it is to update the firmware... so it would be poiintless for sony to let you unlock it and install a new firmware. if anything comes up let me know.
