Looking for the best linux match for me
Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum. I've been using linux YDL 5.x on my PS3 for quite some time, and I've had my share of issues. I've decided to look for a linux distro that will fullfill my personal needs more then YDL 5.x does.
Biggest problem i have with my current distro is that it doesn't seem to be able to handle many different kinds of codecs. most divx seem to work, but that's about it. mvk, mp4 containers (and all their codecs) and some others aren't working properly in either mplayer or vlc. Since I have many multi-language files this is bothersome.
So basically my distro needs to be good at 2 things:
- Handling as many codecs as possible (mostly codecs in containers: avi, mkv, mp4)
- Needs a driver for the wireless nic
- needs to evolve, YDL 5.x felt very static. Not really much updates and so on.
I also have a preference for distro's that aren't too hard to use and configure (not too much hassle). I have most experience with unbuntu (use it on my laptop) and YDL, so a distro similar to unbuntu or YDL is a bonus.
I've also read that the newest version of VLC isn't supported by YDL 5.x but is on the new 6.x. So I was thinking to upgrade to 6.x since i'm familiar with it. But I want opinions first cause there might be a better distro for me out there.
Thanks for your time,
Daedie
