MP3 Player for Linux on PS3

I have some stuff to do for a day or so... I will post it up after I finish . Just a start... I would suggest mplayer or VLC (haven't tried VLC yet though).

The PPC version of mplayer does not take advantage of the SPEs in the PS3 Cell processor. For best results, use with -vo fbdev to use use the framebuffer (not x11).

Goblinlord, lets figure out how to get mplayer or VNC working so we can play MP3s and then publish a HOWTO. It will be a first since no one else has one yet.

I am sure there are instructions out there already. You are prolly just looking for ps3 specific instructions... which you don't have to do. Just find instructions for building it from source. They prolly have them on the official site.

I'm a serious newbie when it comes to linux but I know enough about pc's to get by. If any of you could post a howto on mp3s that would be much appreciated. I've tried to install realplayer 10, but I can't get anything to happen with the bin file. I'm not sure if it just wont go on YDL or what. Anyway, some help would be nice. Also, does anyone know what the deal is with wireless congif for YDL?

Hey Nicholas, I installed MPlayer on my PS3 last weekend. It can play vids & mp3s, I will post a How To later tonight or tomorrow, it takes a few steps. Check back later.

Back in the day when I used linux (couple of years ago) XMMS was the musicplayer of choice. Alot like Winamp.
Don't know if it still the best or if it works with Linux on PS3 but well worth a look.

I have VLC and it is awesome for full screen movie watching and it plays every media file almost. If you have yum configured and manages to install yumex, just type VLC into the search feature in yumex and add it to your que and install it. For full install instructions on configuring yum and yumex and installing it go [Please register to see this link. ] Those instructions also work for Mplayer.
