Subtitle problem in Vlc

I can play divx or xvid titles with vlc on ydl but it does not read the subtitles
The subs are in .sub format. I installed vlc in windows and I had no problem with the subs. Please help me!!

I am getting this same problem. I installed vlc using the yum install vid... command. I am able to play video without any problem, but it would not load the srt file. I use vlc in gnome. I click, "File>open file>. In the open field, I open the video file while the "Use a subtitles file" is checked. Below it, I have the srt fill loaded. I end off clicking OK.

NOTHING.

I can not make subtitles work!!!

I have just the same probblem. Videos works just fine but subtitles doesnt. I tryied same video with windows and vlc and subtitles worked just fine? Is there any solution? I havent tried with mplayer yet but gonna try it today.

Okay, so i tryied also with xine player and Kaffeine both plays vidoes just fine with subtitles. But problem with these players is that now sounds doesnt work right. Sounds are "scampled" With vlc sounds are correct but the video isn't so smooth compared to xine and kaffeine..
