Getting Surround Sound 5.1 through VLC - PS3Hax

Hi,

I have been reading a lot lately on this site and have been able to set up YDL, VLC and stream xvid files off my PC. I am having a problem being able to output 5.1 sound though. The xvid file I have Dled has AC3 5.1 but I think I am missing something.

In VLC options I have enabled S/PDIF and have turned Dolby Surround to Automatic, but the my receiver will not detect the 5.1. When I select 5.1 from the Audio menu while the file is playing it gets louder, but my receiver doesn't detect it and the sound has a bunch of static.

Is there some kind of codec I need or is there another global option that I need to change. Sorry for the newbie question, but I really want to get it to work.

Anyone? Does anyone play DVDs through YDL and has 5.1 supported? If so, did anything special need to be done?

Try switching it to 4 speakers and that should work. I had the same problem with VLC in windows.
