Is gentoo linux better than Yellow dog llinux?

I dont know to much about gentoo linux, but someone told me they thought it was better than yellowdog. Is it? Do you think i should switch to it?

That depends on what you want to do with it, but I'd definately recommend Gentoo!
It rocks (and it's stable).

For n00b's, the guides are step-by-step and if you make sure to avoid typo's you're good to go...

I switched to Gentoo linux after using YellowDog. It was much more difficult to install. I spent 3 times as much time during the install. Gentoo did not come with all the software I had in YellowDog, VLC, ps3 shutdown, firefox. I had to install everything again, which took me a long time.

It does seem faster and more stable, so I am sticking with it and KDE.

The advantage of using Gentoo for me personally is the insight into the operating system and total control it gives me. Also, I think the packaging system (Portage) still is unmatched (I have tried a lot of distro's in the past). Other distro's tend to hide stuff from you using GUI's and what not. There's nothing wrong with that, it's perfect for people who want to get started with Linux right away. But, if you want to know exactly what's going on under the hood, give Gentoo a go

Ubuntu has a much nicer package manager I find, and has a bootable LiveCD you can use to test it out without installing it on your hard drive right away. Gentoo probably has better performance though.
