Default About resolution

Hi,

Installed Gentoo on my PS3 without too much trouble as I've been using it on my PC for a few years now. But I have little experience with this kind of stuff connected to LCD TV's. My PS3 is connected to a Sony Bravia, that can do 1080i (no p unfortunately). When I setup this resolution in Gentoo, text is difficult to read (both in textmode and X), it looks very blurry somehow. My question is, is this a technical limitation of the 1080i resolution or is there a setting somewhere I have overlooked ? Right now I am running 720p which is quite a lot better but also has this issue with small fonts. What's your experience with this ? I am using an HDMI cable btw.

Thanks =)

Can't comment on the bravia, but on my Panasonic PX60 (plasma) 720p is the best balance. Text isn't pin sharp by any stretch, but it's definitely usable (to my eyes anyway). A panel with a native res of 1280x720 should look perfect - mine is only 1024x768 so has to do some scaling.

I find interlaced output pretty painful for desktop use, not to mention the tiny fonts 720p for me, until 1080p panels come down in price. A lot.

I guess I am just spoiled by my computer's LCD screens and sort of expected the same quality on my lcd tv. I know better now I also run 720p at the moment, which is fine. The black borders are annoying though :-}
