You will need to use a different email account to create a new PSN account. If needed, you can create a new email account @ gmail.com.
There is also no way to transfer any multiplayer(/online) game-progress from your old account to your new one. But you can still keep on using your old (sub-account).

Did you first create a new user from within your PS3, followed by selecting the new user and signing up for a master account?
To create a new user, go to "Users" (on the left in the PS3 menu) -> "Create New User". Did you also tried a other email and/or password for your PSN master-account? I don't know any other way... Sorry.
