my black border fix

okay guys, I am really new to linux. One week exactly. I love ydl but hate the black border on my 37 inch. i followed 5 hours of instructions last night and finally got it to change to fullscreen, erasing th black borders, but then it became to large (by no more than 1/4 inch). I adjusted the Graphical mode configuration, but the only resoultions available for 720p all respond the same way: too large for my screen or horribly distorted. i think linuxs' resolution output only works in these modes:

"1920x1200" "1920x1080" "1280x1024" "1280x768" "1280x720" "720x576" "720x480"

nothing in between.

So in the end my final solution was to lock the windows (of the programs i use) to a certain size that creates a fullscreen "look" on my tv. i would do a screenshot, but its pointless because you guys can't see my tv. this is my temporary fix, until i can do further research, or anyone can give furthur insight than the other resoultion black border post.

alright. first time posting here. but thanks to a few hours of forum browsing, i found the cure to your problem (working on my system). the only way i could get mine to have a full screen without any borders, or any other crap, was to edit the kboot.conf, and xorg.conf files, and set the picture size on my tv to "just scan". 16:9 was oversized, 4:3 was stupid (wrong aspect ratio), so i tried just scan. this accepts the signal as it is, and does not resize it. i hope this helps. mine works now at 1280x720, and full screen. i used mode 131 for kboot. good luck.
