LINUX IS SLOW

Is it just me or is Linux on the ps3 really slow. Everything that i do on here takes for ever to load. From firefox to installing rpm files.. I am a totall newb at this linux thing so maybe i have to configure somethin to speed up linux. Maybe writing 5 pages of code and editing some shell extensions will do it. LoL

So yeah is it just me, or is that just how linux is.....SLOW ?

It's just the PS3. :P Which surprised me a bit after the repeated ad campaign around the AWESOME power of the cell processor on PS3 - but I guess all that power is thrown into an architecture focused on graphics processing. Frankly, I don't know enough about it to say if future linux distros will be able to perform better, but I do know linux on my 4 year old old laptop easily outperforms my PS3.
Taking a step back, it is still pretty amazing that you can use a gaming machine as a true PC at all...

well se the processer is based more into the game os then linux being sony never ment for linux to be instaleld on it so they didnt core it for both a second os and the game os thats y its slow

The main bottleneck is only 256MB mem. avail.

The memory AND the fact that it's only using 2 of it's 7 processors.

Yea, 256MB for memory isn't the greated in the world. Even though Linux isn't a system hog, it's still not much.

Maybe we can hope future YDL releases will run faster? I'm not that bugged by it, It's not horrible, but I think it could definetly be faster.
