Hello, My name is Dusty. I've been a gamer much longer than
I've been into computers, but I have an avid love for both.
I was born and raised in Oklahoma, and at the tender age of
20 I got my first(and only) real IT job. I moved to California
and for the past 6.5 years I was a Unix/Linux Systems Administrator
at Hewlett Packard, most of which was spent supporting Procurve's
R&D lab(HP's networking division). Unfortunately I was a contractor
and in October HP decided not to renew their contract with my
company, so I was laid off. I took some time off and am now
looking for work again. It was quite an experience getting to work
with cutting edge technology for a top fortune 500 company, and
for that I am grateful....
I own a launch 60GB PlayStation 3, a launch PSP-1001, and a newly
acquired slim+lite PSP-2001. I had a Wii, but sold it with plans to
purchase it again in the near future. I also have an original DS.
I have never purchased anything from Microsoft(ever), and thus don't
own an Xbox(360), While I have played on them and enjoyed them, I
can't in good conscious(being an avid Linux user) support Microsoft.
I do think they have done some good things for gaming, but I also
believe they got into the console market for the wrong reasons.
But in order to keep this introduction from turning into a memoirs
of my personal beliefs, I will stop with that. If anybody has any
questions, feel free to ask(on the forums or in a PM), since I am not
currently working I have been online......a lot! o_O Its allowed me
to play around with YDL more extensively though, so thats a good thing.
I was also able to catch up on a lot of gaming. I mostly play WarHawk
on PSN, but have a dozen or so games and a plethora of BD movies.
I found this site not long after it started, looking for custom PS3
firmwares(much like the rest of you). I lurked for a while before I
started to get involved, but it is now shaping into quite the community
and I rather enjoy coming here on a regular basis now. I hope I can
serve your needs well.
I am going to college for networking right now. I am just learning basic stuff right now though, in july, I'll be starting my bachelors program in networking, can't wait!
Welcome!! Hope you like it here. I am new too (just registered 2 days ago) but I'm already getting used to the cool atmosphere. I want to major in advanced computer science or networking. they are both cool. And considering I'm still in high school and already know most of the Linux basics that is going to help me alot.
