Hey guys-

I'm Austin, I'm 19, I work and I'm in college.

Don't have a PS3 yet. I've decided I'm going to, as soon as I come across a 20gig around here somewhere. I plan on using it as media center PC and of course to game on. The PS3 is appealing to me, because of how much I can do with it, and only spending $500 on the console itself.

I have a lot of background with PC's, I've been building them for 5 years now, I know windows 9x, XP, and have used Vista since RC1. I have very little experisnce with gentoo linux. I plan on putting YDL on the PS3 when I get it.

I also love the fact that theirs no console war crap going on here, it's so far been the most mature board i've been on.

I'm also on tech-forums.net under TheOtis.

Hello everyone,

My name is William. I'm attending South Texas College at the moment and I work for Directtv customer service. I bought myself a ps3 last week and Tiger Woods 07. I upgraded to v1.51 and I also installed yellow dog linux on Ps3 the other day. The only problem I have is getting yellow dog linux to detect my dynex wireless usb adapter. If someone can guide me on how to access the internet with dynex usb it’ll be appreciated. Games I would love to see on the ps3 market street fighter hyper fight, killer instinct and mortal kombat ultimate 3, My ps3 tagname is BladedEye427 anyone who is interested in playing 18 holes of golf let me know.

Thanks,
BladedEye

hey bladedeye, welcome. nice intro. So I dont think YDL knows how to mount a usb device as a network adaptor (anyone can correct me on this), it is looking for an ethernet connection. Remember also, no wireless drivers yet. Hook your usb wireless adaptor to the back of PS3 with a short ethernet cable and use YDL network config for eth0 to use this device, set it up as DHCP or static IP, whatever you have. I use a Netgear wireless game adaptor (for PS2) hooked via short ethernet cable. works great.

Default Introduction Thread

Hi everyone,

Steve here online name (DR0G0) note zeros used. I am based in the UK and have had my PS3 (US) 60gig for just over two weeks looking forward to see what this baby can do. Have just purchased a 100 gig 2.5" HD for PS3 so may if needed fit that soon. This weekend I plan on installing YDL to see just how it runs. I am really a Windows chap, forced .. as I am a IT manager and run a M$ network at work windows 2003 server, but that not to say I wont use anything else.

My main interest in to see just how the PS3 handles media files as I have a huge colection of xvids which at the moment my xbox 1 (XBMC - MC360) is serving ... Also one thing I have a 42" Plasma HD .. which res should I run YDL at

Great site, look forward to learning and over time helping other users ...

Regards
Drogo (Steve)

Hello Guys, I am Leon and my ID is littlelio, which is also my PS3 name tag.

I have already finished my College with a master degree of Advanced Computing/Computer Science. In the college, Linux is my friend although at home the evil MS Windows is my servant. I am quite interested in Computer Graphics, that's why I pick a degree project about 3D face recognition, using VTK. (I spent days and nights on it under Linux and Windows...)

If you want to have a look at my project, be my guest

However, unfortunately now my work has nothing to do these stuff :-}

Anyway,

Days before I got the bloody PS3 XD. It wass not a very nice experience because the UK version of PS3 is more expensive than other place in the world , but at least it is a premium version... I was so excited about this great console. the PS3 is just awesome.

But I seem more interested in OtherOS on PS3, and that's why I am here. As usuall, I want to use this system as a media centre, view pictures, videos and listen to music. Of course it would be great if we can create or edit those media on it, too.

I really hope that I can learn a lot here, also, I would be very glad if I can help anyone on anything.

Hello all.

Saying i'm new here would be an understatement and totally obvious, but...i'm new here lol. In the "quest" to find how I can watch my movies I download from my PC on my PS3 took me to the PS3 Video 9 and Media Player X by Red Kawa, but the conversion of every file I download was both tedious and mind numbing. That's where YDL 5.0 came into play. I updated to 1.6FW for further video format compatibility and i've read around that there are a couple steps in the tutorial that can be omitted with the 1.6 FW...I hope I don't screw anything up.

Is there a way you can brick your PS3 by installing an OtherOS? Because if there is...i'd probably be the unlucky bastard to do it lol. And since I have a SD TV it'll make it that much more interesting.

Anyway, I'll get started on the installation tonight and hope/pray that everything goes well. I'll apologize in advanced for any stupid questions that i'll no doubt ask(after searching of couse :P ) and I'd greatly appreciate any help given.

Hello everyone.
I am Michael, I live in Greece and bought ps3 60gb pal edition on the launch day...
I have already installed linux ydl...
My first game is Call of Duty 3 which i really love...

Of course, all my questions are about the use of ydl as a media player, since I want to use the ps3 with my HD files in various containers, mkv, ts, avi, mpeg etc.
