Or an alternative to direct rendering (and a good one at that) would be to set up the Cell SPE's that not enabled by default but are programmable in linux to have an OpenGL priority. They are pretty darn good with complex calculations. Just take a look at folding@home. Why not graphics. We need some programmers into these type of things.
