Noob Questions
Hi There and thanks for the great site. I bought a PS3 largely because I hate windows and I wanted to have a cool 'Media PC' hooked up to my HDTV. I think that the potential for the PS3 as a linux box is unbelievable, I hope you guys feel the same.
I installed YDL onto my system a couple nights ago and I have a few questions. I am a true noob, so please bear with me. I tried to find ways to do these things through the forums here and elsewhere but they are still a bit too technical for me.
First off, the default resolution for the window manager (E17) on YDL is way too high, I can barely see the icons. Once I open Firefox the text size etc.. is a bit better but I would like to know if there is an easy text command to decrease the resolution and/or increase the size of all the icons. I have tried using a 'ps3videomode' command but it just screwed everything up, but I just kind of guessed at it. So does anybody know off-hand a few easy commands to decrease the resolution slightly from default E17?
My second question is related to the first, I would like to try out KDE as an alternative to E17 just to see if the default resolution will look a bit better on my HDTV. I have looked around and all I could find as a solution is to write 'yum kdebase' in the command line, or something to that effect. Will writing 'yum kdebase' install a new window manager on my system? Also, is KDE as stable as YDL?
Thanks much for reading my post, and for any help you might give.
