Re: How to Install Gentoo Linux
The one that's posted earlier here is a complete instruction set for the Gentoo 64-bit userland of stage3 tarball. To be safe, you should always follow the official install script as they may be changed by the creator of the stage4 tarball. 64-bit userland as I mentioned has some issues right now based on my testing. So, I would strongly recommend the 32-bit userland.
If you follow the official installation instructions.
This tarball has everything pre-merged, including the PS3 toolchains. If you have the means, use a memorystcik, external usb drive, or even an SD card to load the official otheros files from Sony's site. Once you get that done, format your PS3 hard drive. 10GB or 50GB linux doesn't make a difference in the install steps except for the actual number of cylinders that you define. You can see my post #2 on this thread. Other than that, everything should work fine. If you're planning on using an upgraded hard drive, you'll need to figure out the actual cylinder count to enable 100GB+ linux partition, or simply use +100000M in the place for +9000M in the official install script. Basically the official install script was written with a 20GB PS3. So, if you follow those directions without changing that value, you'll be wasting a lot of space.
Goodluck.
