its way easier than that now with ubunto
just format the disk via xmb chose install other os throw in the ps3 ubuntu flavor of your choice (I chose xubuntu cause its nice and light)
and bang your an official nerd. Takes a little tweaking and a dl to get the onboard wifi to work but its def worth it if your running off wireless like me.
