Thanks a lot for a very nice response. It is always hard to know what to search for unfortunately. The TAB key is probably all I need. I have rebooted a few times, tried some other keys and always ended up in the GUI/unreadable interface. I will give it a try later but I am very confident that if I can stop the boot process and access the files I will fix my mess.
